Date: Sun, 22 Nov 1998 05:14:01 EST From: Melissa Hao Subject: minutes for 11/15 meeting To: CTY-BOSTON@MATTABABY.DYN.ML.ORG Highlights * next meeting at Harvard * constitution finalized Again, apologies for being late... Hopefully we'll be an offical, ASA-sanctioned group soon. Then we could get money for refreshments, course materials, and many more wonderful things. The finboard application deadline is coming up, and Anna is trying to get us a finboard liaison to help with the process. Anna has brought into existence two new mailing lists at mit: cty and cty-exec. Look for mail from these lists coming to a mailbox near you... ESP update - although residential summer programs for high school students have been offered by ESP in the past, new legislation makes this more difficult, as MIT would have to assume greater legal responsibilities for the supervision of minors. Some ideas for a fun cty-boston activity! A weekend retreat, an alumni weekend, you name it... It was suggested that the next meeting should be held at Harvard, and in general, that each meeting could take place at the home college of whoever volunteered to facilitate it. The next meeting, facilitated by Brendan Connell and William Josephson, is scheduled for Wednesday December 2 at 7pm, so mark your calendars. After some debate over the particulars of our constitution, we decided on two conditions for passing an amendent: a quorum of 50% and a passage ratio of 90%. So (now this isn't written in stone), at least 50% of the group must be at the meeting and at least 90% must approve of the change. We chose 90% because while it allows for some dissent, the vast majority must approve of the change. Elections will most likely be held at the beginning of next term (that is, the next MIT term which starts in February). The current positions are president, treasurer, and secretary. Finally, we discussed the issue of whether we want a sister organization at Harvard. While it would be best to think of ourselves as one group (at MIT), there are perks to being recognized by Harvard, such as scheduling rooms for meetings that occur there. That's it for now -- tune in next time for another exciting installment of meeting minutes -- melissa
