To: cty@MIT.EDU Subject: minutes for March 3 meeting Date: Mon, 08 Mar 1999 01:55:27 EST From: Melissa Hao CTYAA meeting of March 3, 1999 Party! We're considering holding a party the Friday before spring break (that is, MIT and Harvard's spring break) in East Campus's very own Talbot lounge. Are people going to actually be around? Email annakben@mit.edu if you're interested in helping out. Financial report On Sunday Feb 28, Anna and Melissa presented to Finboard an oral defense for their Spring 99 budget proposal. They asked for a little over a $1000 and received $450. Melissa is currently investigating other sources of funding, such as those suggested by Finboard. To very briefly summarize the budget proposal, the money will used for publicity and social events, but most of it will go into subsidizing textbooks for Matthew's class. Computer science course update 15 students registered last Saturday for Matthew's computer science course, which starts this weekend. 5 out of 15 were CTY-qualified; one was from the Ohio State number theory program. William was instrumental in having mail sent to current CTY-qualified students in the Boston area, their mailing addresses courtesy of CTY in Baltimore. (Matt helped with some of the messy details.) Students also heard about the program through ESP mailings. Textbooks arrived last week. The class takes place on Saturdays from 10-3, with an optional study session afterwards. You can always email belmonte@mit.edu if you're interested, and he'll add you to the course staff mailing list. Alumni contact and recruitment report Anna contacted Holly Brandt at the CTY office, the person responsible for alumni relations. Unfortunately, she appears to be swamped... for example, the alumni databases are out of date and she expressed little interest in having them updated. Harvard orgnization report William reports that Harvard is very uncomfortable sponsoring an organization that doesn't completely exist at Harvard. Next meeting William will facilitate the next meeting, with Brendan's help. It will be roughly two weeks from now -- exact time and location TBA.
