From: Matthew Belmonte To: Fletcher Vredenburgh A letter in this week's issue of the Journal of the American Medical association reports that patients who are receiving radiation therapy are being stopped and searched -- even strip-searched, in at least one instance -- by New York City police when they use public transit or bridges and tunnels. This is the stuff of a police state, not a free country. If someone really wants to get a radiation source into Manhattan, they'll find a way to do it, in a shielded container or by boat, for instance. Hassling cancer patients is not going to change anything, and only hands another victory to enemies of freedom. I urge you to stop this practice.
