Subject: thank you for opposing Privacy Act exemptions for CAPPS II

Dear Attorney General Reilly

Thank you so much for your comments dated 17 March submitted to the US
Department of Transportation (docket number OST-1996-1437), in opposition to
the proposed rule exempting the CAPPS II passenger profiling system from the
Privacy Act.  As you know, the proposed exemptions to the Privacy Act risk
creating a permanent underclass of travellers who would be impeded or prevented
from flying, on the basis of secret and possibly incorrect information.

Your willingness to throw the weight of the Commonwealth behind the opposition
to this proposed rule makes it much more likely that the Administration will
think twice about its ramifications for civil liberties.  Thank you for helping
to put the brakes on this very poor idea.
