Subject: Liberian peacekeeping

Thank you for the diplomatic pressure that your administration has been
applying to encourage Charles Taylor to leave Liberia peacefully.  I hope
that you'll make every effort to continue this diplomacy, in cooperation
with other African governments and with the United Nations.  I also hope
that if peacekeeping forces are necessary in order to restore order and
to prevent a human-rights disaster in Liberia, the United States will be
willing to participate as a partner with other nations in such a
peacekeeping effort.
