S.1709 would undo some of the damage to civil liberties caused by your vote in favour of the USA PATRIOT Act two years ago. In particular, S.1709 would limit roving wiretaps and secret searches, restore some privacy to records maintained by libraries and booksellers, and prevent extensive monitoring of library computer users. It would also apply a sunset clause to the the USA PATRIOT Act's provision for searches of private records without judicial review. Again, I hope that you'll make every effort to move S.1709 through the Judiciary Committee intact, and that you may consider co-sponsoring S.1709. Matthew Belmonte [address]
