I'm disappointed that the Senate is reconsidering an energy bill (S. 2095) that offers massive subsidies to dirty fossil fuels while largely excluding clean energy measures that would improve energy security, save consumers money, and cut global warming.

In particular, the new version of this bill lacks a renewable electricity standard (RES) that would require utilities to generate 10% of the United States' electricity from clean renewable sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, and bioenergy by 2020. The exclusion of the RES is surprising given that the senate has already passed the provision two years in a row and that 53 senators signed a letter last year calling for inclusion of the RES in any energy legislation emerging from Congress.

Please oppose harmful provisions in the new energy bill and support an amendment to insert last year's Senate-passed RES. I look forward to hearing your position on this important issue.
