I hope that you'll attend Thursday's summit meeting to coordinate aid to the
Asian tsunami victims.  A generous, visible, and active American commitment to
this aid effort has the potential to redefine the United States' image in
southeast Asia and particularly in Indonesia, a fragile Muslim democracy whose
lomg-term stability would be a boon to the security of the United States.
Please seize this opportunity to show an entire generation of southeast Asians
the best qualities of the United States of America.
