I urge you to oppose S.103, the Combat Meth Act of 2005, which is currently before you in the Judiciary Committee. Section 104(2)(b) of this bill would require purchasers of cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine, one of the most common and most effective treatments for cold symptoms, to present photographic identification and to sign a log. Has the United States become so inured to lost liberties that people will now have to present identification to buy cold medicine?! Mr Kennedy, you know what a New England winter is like, and you know how miserable a cold can be during one of these winters. If this bill becomes law, I will no longer be able to buy cold medicine in the United States without sacrificing my privacy, and that it not something that I'm prepared to do. I resent the prospect of being treated as a potential manufacturer of methamphetamine when all that I'm trying to do is seek relief from a cold.
