I hope that you'll oppose HR 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act. By redefining as a felony the mere continued presence of an illegal immigrant inside the United States, this bill would make felons of a huge class of workers on whom the United States' service economy depends, and would thwart plans to offer amnesty to otherwise law-abiding illegal immigrants. The United States can't have it both ways: either it wants immigrants who'll supply cheap labour, or it doesn't. The current equivocation on the status of illegal immigrants helps no one, and Congress ought to recognise the economic benefit provided by this class of immigrants.
