I hope that you'll use your position on the Judiciary Committee to help ensure speedy report and passage of S.2369, a bipartisan bill to amend the recently reauthorised USA PATRIOT Act so that it will be somewhat less intrusive on civil liberties. This bill would require the government to demonstrate connection to a suspected terrorist before being able to pursue Section 215 requests for business records, would place a seven-day limit on delayed notification of searches, would eliminate National Security Letter provisions at the end of 2009, and would strengthen the recipients' ability to challenge gag orders associated with National Security Letters.
