I urge you to oppose S.2453, the National Security Surveillance Act, and also S.2455, the Terrorist Surveillance Act. Both of these bills would give the executive branch unchecked power that it simply doesn't need. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) already permits the executive to act temporarily without a warrant when time is critical. Legalisation of the Bush government's practice of warrantless wiretapping would threaten privacy and chill free speech without producing any security benefit over and above what's already possible within FISA.
