Dear Mr Lansley I write to urge you to oppose the government's renewed proposal for an increase in the current 28-day limit to detention without charge. All of us recognise the government's need for tools to act against those who would curtail our freedoms. However, locking up citizens arbitrarily for four weeks (or for the proposed extension to six weeks) without judicial review, causing people to forfeit jobs and other responsibilities without any tested proof that they are guilty of a crime, is certainly not the way preserve freedoms. Sincerely Matthew Belmonte
