As a brother and an uncle to two people with autism, and as a member of the Society for Neuroscience, I urge you to support an appropriation for the National Institutes of Health of at least $31.3 billion for fiscal year 2010, the level approved by the House of Representatives. Such an investment will sustain the momentum produced by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, and will place the NIH on target to reach $40 billion. As you know, health research is a major industry in Massachusetts, and this investment will benefit not only the Massachusetts economy but also all those suffering from disorders whose treatments will come from this increased research investment.
