Thank you for being an original co-sponsor of HR 3567, the Respect for Marriage Act. As you know, this simple and straightforward bill would repeal the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act," making the legal aspect of marriage a matter for each state to define. To the extent that the government ought to be involved at all in defining what marriage is and can be, the Respect for Marriage Act at least levels the field by allowing individual states to legislate equal access to marriage for homosexual and heterosexual couples.
