I am highly disappointed that you, along with the entire Massachusetts delegation, chose to abstain from this past Thursday's (18 April) crucial vote on HR 624, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. This terrible and tyrannical bill was passed by the House in your absence, and now goes to the Senate where, one can only hope, saner and more responsible heads might prevail. HR 624 would permit Internet service providers and other information technology companies voluntarily to share users' private information with the intelligence agencies of the US government, without the users in question ever being notified. The bill is worded so vaguely and generally that almost any piece of information, including email and medical records, could be turned over to the government without any warrant or notification. Furthermore, this bill's provisions would override existing privacy laws. As an elected member of Congress you promised to represent the interests of the people of Massachusetts. In this instance, you have not done so.
