To: senator@boxer.senate.gov (Barbara Boxer) From: mkb4@Cornell.edu (Matthew Belmonte) Subject: I oppose SB 574 SB 574 (Kennedy) would establish a nationwide, comprehensive database of anyone and everyone hired for any job. The requirement of accessing this database every time someone is being considered for a job would present a great inconvenience and invasion of privacy for employers and employees alike. In addition, the tracking information contained in such a database could be easily misused by unscrupulous agencies or individuals, and the record on of the United States government in this area during the past twenty-five years does not inspire confidence. I urge you not to succumb to the hysteria that has been provoked by the Oklahoma bombing and by the scapegoating of illegal immigrants. This bill would do more to harm ordinary Americans than it could possibly do to remedy either of those situations.
