This bill would put electronic encryption algorithms where they belong, in the hands of private citizens. By relaxing export controls on encryption algorithms, the bill would open foreign markets to leading-edge American products for data communications, and expand American technology jobs. The current export controls ensure only that law-abiding citizens and businesses are prevented from using and marketing encryption technologies, while those who are willing to break the law can easily obtain access to such technologies.
