Subject: support SB 1146

I'm writing to express my support for SB 1146, the Digital Copyright
Clarification and Technology Act.  Information carried by electronic media is
easily transmitted and duplicated, and this strains the language of existing
copyright laws which were developed to deal with print media.  SB 1146 assures
educators and distance-learning students the same right to fair use of
copyrighted materials that teachers and students currently enjoy with printed
matter in the classroom.  It also allows for the kind of temporary storage that
has become ubiquitous with Web-based access, and shields access providers from
liability for their users' infringements.  SB 1146 addresses the realities of
electronic access, and I hope that you will support its passage.
